He began his education at Christ Church School, Porogun Alapo, Ijebu Ode. Between 1974 and 1979 he attended Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro, Ogun State and proceeded to CMS Grammar School Bariga, Lagos for the Higher School Certificate. At the University of Lagos and at the age of 20, he got his Bachelor’s degree in Insurance in 1984. He quickly followed with a Masters’ Degree (MBA) in Financial Management and Accounting between 1985 and 1987.
He graduated with LLB in Law at Lagos State University in 2001 and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2003 as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He professionally qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute London (ACII) in 1988.
BOT, as he is popularly known and addressed, has thrown up great enthusiasm among his many supporters throughout Ogun State particularly within the very short period of his coming on the political stage. The Building Opportunities for Tomorrow (BOT): an NGO initiative which heralded Biyi’s political project is one that has impacted many lives positively. It is an initiative that is tailored towards identifying the various needs of his kinsmen in Yewa-Awori and the kind of intervention that can change the living standard of teeming Farmers and Artisans, Retirees, Market women, Underprivileged youths, Teachers and other professionals.
As a devoted Christian and a committed man of faith, Otegbeye brings his faith to bear in his deeds, even in the political front to the admiration of many. Having him on the political landscape is sturdy hope that our generation will not be a total waste in the political history of not only Ogun west, but Ogun State at large. He and a few others are the light of progress that beacons on the entire Ogun State.
In his words, his participation in the 2015 poll as the SDP flagbearer for the Ogun west senatorial seat was a decision well thought of and driven by a strong desire to contribute his quota to the economic and political advancement of Ogun West, which needs quality leadership to propel it towards realizing its fullest potential.
In 2012, Mr. Otegbeye was appointed a member of the Fact-Finding Panel of Gateway Industrial and Petroleum Institute by the state governor.
He was later appointed as Chairman of the Governing Board of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in April 2013 by the then President Goodluck Jonathan.
